No one enjoys having pests as unwanted visitors in their home. At Alexander, we believe pest control begins with prevention. While our quarterly services are guaranteed to keep pests away, there are some things that you can do in your home to prevent them from showing up in the first place.
Pests show up in our homes looking for two things: shelter and a convenient meal.
Deprive them of food by:
- Making sure all food is put away and securely contained (especially pet food).
- Washing dishes immediately after meals to prevent pests from consuming food residue on dishes.
- Emptying trash containers frequently and keeping them clean.
- Emptying sink strainers and running the garbage disposal frequently to prevent food build up in the drain.
- Cleaning food particles and grease from kitchen appliances (toasters, ovens, microwaves, stoves, etc.).
- Storing pet food in resealable containers.
- Storing food products in plastic snap-lid containers or kept in refrigerator.
- Vacuuming and sweeping floors and furniture regularly, especially around eating areas such as kitchens and living rooms.
Pests are sometimes able to get in by physical openings in the structure of our homes.
Deprive them of access by:
- Sealing gaps around plumbing, wall outlets, and switch plates.
- Screening windows and doors.
- Fixing any holes or openings near doors.
Some pests make homes in unsuspecting places.
You can keep them at bay by:
- Removing open containers or vessels where water can collect (such as old tires or buckets) as they can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
- Keeping firewood and lumber away from the house to eliminate harborage for rodents, spiders, and centipedes.
